LYNCHBURG, Va. (AP) - Relatives of a North Carolina man have held a march in a Virginia city, saying police officers used excessive force in his arrest.
Lynchburg police told news outlets 31-year-old Larry Anthony Booker of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, was arrested during a traffic stop last Wednesday and charged with multiple criminal offenses and traffic offenses.
Police said Booker rolled over on an officer, kicked a police dog and tried to escape. According to police, a baton was used to get Booker to stop resisting and to stop him from kicking the dog.
Booker’s mother, Nida McQueen, told WSET-TV that police went too far.
About 30 people marched about a mile through the rain Sunday. Outlets report that Booker was treated at a hospital after his arrest.
