BRISTOL, R.I. (AP) - A U.S. Post Office in Bristol will be named after an Army Green Beret who was killed in Afghanistan.
U.S. Sens. Jack Reed and Sheldon Whitehouse and Reps. David Cicilline and Jim Langevin introduced legislation to name the post office in honor of 1st Sgt. P. Andrew McKenna.
Members of the delegation said Thursday President Donald Trump had signed the bill.
The 35-year-old Bristol native died during an attack in Kabul in 2015.
Cicilline says McKenna represented “all that is great about Rhode Island and our country.”
Reed says this is a small but important recognition of McKenna’s tremendous contributions.
McKenna, a 17-year Army veteran, also served in Iraq. He was awarded the Bronze Star with V device for heroism in combat.
A ceremony will be held for the renaming.
