CLERMONT, Fla. (AP) - Authorities in Florida say they still are searching for an inmate who escaped from a county prison last week.

News outlets report that 34-year-old Alinton H. John fled the Lake Correctional Institution near Clermont on May 25. Prison spokesman Patrick Manderfield said Friday that the prison is working with several law enforcement agencies to find John.

A Florida Department of Corrections spokesperson says John walked away while working at the facility’s motor pool. Authorities say John then stole a pickup truck that may have had a gun inside it.

John had been considered a minimum security inmate based on good behavior. State records say John was serving a 15-year sentence for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon when he escaped.
