COLCHESTER, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont boat owner whose boat was destroyed by another boat that unexpectedly burst into flames says he doesn’t blame his neighbors.

Colchester resident Mario “Rio” Girelli says fate put his boat “Little Italy” square in the path of “Beach House” a 31-foot boat that burst into flames Saturday morning in Mallets Bay. The Burlington Free Press reports Girelli was ashore when Christopher Poulin’s boat burst into flames.

Witnesses told police that three occupants on the larger boat jumped off when it caught fire. They were later transported to an area hospital.

Wind and waves sent the flaming boat crashing into Girelli’s boat. He says insurance claims are in the works for his boat, but nothing will replace a set of fishing lures he inherited from his father.
