NORTH HAMPTON, N.H. (AP) - A car has crashed into a utility pole and landed in a marsh in New Hampshire.

Deputy Fire Chief Jason Lajoie says the North Hampton Fire Department responded to the crash at 8:12 a.m. Monday. The Portsmouth Herald reports the driver of that vehicle was an unidentified man who declined medical help after the crash.

Police say they are unsure how the crash happened, but Lajoie says gas from the car was leaking into the marsh and becoming an environmental issue.

The New Hampshire Department of Environmental Services has been contacted.

Later that morning, a water company van crashed into a different utility pole - badly damaging the van.
