MORENO VALLEY, Calif. (AP) - Two Southern California teens are in custody on suspicion of committing robberies targeting people using a mobile app to sell property.

The Riverside County Sheriff’s Department says a person was attacked and robbed in Moreno Valley in January during a transaction for a cellphone that was arranged through the OfferUp app. In a similar incident in May, another victim was robbed of a cellphone at gunpoint.

The department says a robbery suppression team subsequently identified two Moreno Valley juveniles, ages 16 and 17, as suspects.

One suspect was located and arrested this week. The other was already in custody in another case.

Moreno Valley city leaders have established a “swap zone” monitored by surveillance cameras in the Police Department parking lot where residents can meet to buy and sell items.
