THETFORD, Vt. (AP) - A Vermont police department is asking for help identifying vehicles that have been hitting a historic covered bridge in the town of Thetford.

Officials in Thetford are concerned the damage could cause structural damage to the 1839 bridge and its possible closure.

Police say that over the last several months the Sayre’s Covered Bridget on Tucker Hill Road in Thetford Center has been hit multiple times, damaging some of the boards.

On Thursday a vehicle hit both ends of the bridge.

The bridge is posted for vehicles no higher than 10 feet 6 inches (320 centimeters).
