HOWELL, Mich. (AP) - A truck driver charged in connection with a multi-vehicle crash that killed three people on U.S. 23 in southeastern Michigan is scheduled to stand trial after withdrawing from a plea deal.

Gary Bryce Erard of Snover earlier pleaded no contest to three misdemeanor counts of moving violation causing death following the April 23, 2017 crash. His agreement with prosecutors called for 30 days in jail.

Livingston County District Court Judge L. Suzanne Geddis sentenced Erard to six months in jail Thursday. After hearing the sentence, the Livingston Daily Press & Argus reports defense lawyer Roy Johnson said Erard was withdrawing his plea. A trial is scheduled for July 12.

Authorities say Erard failed to stop as he approached traffic that was stopped in a construction area in Livingston County.
