HAWTHRONE, N.J. (AP) - Fire officials in New Jersey say the driver of a dump truck that rolled backward through a home in Hawthorne is lucky to be alive.
Hawthorne Fire Chief Joseph Speranza said that if the house had not been there, the dump truck would have gone over a drop-off. The Record reports the house was severely damaged after the driver lost control of the dump truck while loading gravel Monday morning.
Homeowner Vincent Colonnelli says he was in the backyard when he heard the crash. When he went out into the front yard, he saw the smoke and the dump truck. No one was inside the home during the crash and no injuries have been reported.
Hawthorne emergency services were on scene.
