MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - Vermont’s congressional delegation says the state is getting $4 million in federal grants to help fight the opioid epidemic.
A total of $930 million is being distributed throughout the country through the new State Opioid Response Grants program.
Last year, opioid-related deaths in Vermont rose by 5 percent to a total of 101 while deaths from fentanyl jumped by 30 percent.
The grants program is aimed at increasing access to medication-assisted treatment, reducing unmet treatment need and reducing opioid overdose related deaths through prevention, treatment and recovery activities for opioid use disorder.
Democratic Sen. Patrick Leahy says the funding is a significant increase over past years.
