DENVER (AP) - A former caregiver in suburban Denver has been sentenced to jail and five years of probation for the drowning death of an at-risk patient.
The Denver Post reported Wednesday that Victoria Pletting has already served all but two days of her jail time for the Nov. 20, 2014, death of Buddhi Rai at the Wheat Ridge Regional Center. Pletting pleaded guilty to criminally negligent homicide, a felony.
Prosecutors say she left Buddhi Rai alone in a bathtub despite requirements that staff maintain line-of-sight supervision. The man, who had developmental disabilities, a severe seizure disorder and a tendency to pull out his nourishment tube, drowned after a possible seizure.
Pletting is barred from working as a caregiver for the duration of her probation.
