MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A Tennessee utility says efforts to restore electrical service to thousands of customers in the Memphis area could take several days following severe storms.

Memphis Light, Gas and Water says in a news release 18,000 customers were without power Sunday morning. The company says service should be restored to all customers by Wednesday. High temperatures are forecast to reach the mid- to upper 90s (35 to 36 degrees Celsius) through Thursday.

The company says more than 23,000 customers had their service restored since the storms first hit Saturday morning. More storms Saturday night caused additional outages.

About two dozen workers from Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia are expected to assist with restoration efforts that include replacing damaged utility poles and lines.
