BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police say a man with longstanding mental health issues shot his wife at a home in Louisiana before turning the gun on himself.

The Baton Rouge Advocate reports the couple found inside of the home Tuesday has been identified as 36-year-old Thomas Marcello and 34-year-old Maria Marcello.

Baton Rouge police say Thomas Marcello’s father found the bodies that had likely been lying in the home for days around 11:45 a.m.

Police spokesman Sgt. L’Jean McKneely says Maria Marcello was lying on the bed and Thomas Marcello was on the floor inside their bedroom. The newspaper says the husband left behind a suicide note.

East Baton Rouge Coroner Dr. Beau Clark says an order of protective custody was issued for Thomas Marcello in May 2016.
