GRETNA, La. (AP) - A former city councilman of a New Orleans suburb has been accused of illegally having pharmaceutical drugs and a gun, and also fleeing from police.

News outlets cite records as showing the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office jailed 54-year-old Lawrence Landry on Tuesday. A report by The New Orleans Advocate identified him as a former Harahan councilman who served two four-year terms beginning in 2006. He left the post because of term limits.

The jail records say Landry was charged with several offenses and is accused of possessing pharmaceuticals commonly sold as Vicodin and Suboxone.

David Courcelle is Landry’s attorney. He says his client posted $61,000 bond by Wednesday night and will be due in court at a later date.
