NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Tennessee police say a Buddhist monk has been accused of sexually assaulting a teen he had been paid to do some work at a Nashville temple.
The Tennessean reports 57-year-old Sayasith Sitthipanyo was arrested Thursday and charged with seven counts of sexual battery by an authority figure. He’s also charged with eight counts of displaying sex acts to a minor.
Metro Nashville Police say Sitthipanyo had unlawful physical contact with a 15-year-old boy between February and May. Police say he also viewed pornography with the boy. Police say he began paying the teen last year to do work around the Lao Xaoput Buddhist Temple.
It’s unclear if Sitthipanyo has a lawyer.
