ST. LOUIS (AP) - Authorities say a man has been fatally shot in St. Louis while trying to force his way into the home of woman who had filed a court order of protection against him.

The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports that police are trying to determine whether the Monday night shooting in the Bevo Mill neighborhood was a case of self-defense. Police say someone other than the woman shot the man in an alley as he tried to enter the home through a window. The man’s name wasn’t immediately released. Police said only that he is in his 40s and described his relationship with the woman who’d filed a protection order against him as “domestic.”

At least one person was taken into police custody for questioning.
