TROY, Ala. (AP) - A 77-year-old Alabama man has died after his boat capsized in a private pond.

Troy Police Chief Randall Barr says John Lewis Foster was fishing with a 69-year-old friend, whose name was not released.

WSFA-TV reports that the man told police Foster told him that he felt ill, and the boat capsized as they headed to shore about 11:15 a.m. Tuesday Both men fell in.

The friend wore a life jacket and swam to shore. Foster wasn’t wearing a life jacket.

The friend says he had to drive to a nearby residence for help because his phone fell into the water.

Dive teams from the Pike County Sheriff’s Department and Opp Fire and Rescue found Foster’s body near the capsized boat, about 50 yards (45.7 meters) from the shore.
