BELVIDERE, N.J. (AP) - Prosecutors say a teenage girl in New Jersey has been charged with making a false abduction report.

The Warren County prosecutor’s office says the 17-year-old told police in Hackettstown Township on March 1 that she had been abducted by an unknown male and released a short time later.

Authorities said “a significant amount of resources were expended” over the next week during an investigation that determined that the allegation was false.
