SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say police shot a man while trying to evict him from his Spokane-area apartment.

The Spokane County Sheriff’s Office says a deputy was serving court-ordered eviction paperwork with a Spokane police officer Monday when a man who was sitting on a couch in the apartment began reaching under a blanket.

The Spokesman-Review reports that officers told the man to stop reaching for the blanket but he ignored them and both officers opened fire.

The sheriff’s office says the man was taken to a hospital with at least one gunshot wound.

It was unclear if the man had a gun and if he fired it.

The officers were not injured.

The officers have been placed on administrative leave while authorities investigate.
