TACOMA, Wash. (AP) - Authorities say a man suspected of killing his parents east of Tacoma was shot by police while officers were attempting to arrest him.

Authorities say the 21-year-old man was treated for a gunshot wound to his shoulder and booked into jail on suspicion of two counts of murder.

The Pierce County Sheriff’s Office says 56-year-old Theresa Standley and 55-year-old Steven Standley were found shot to death inside their Buckley home Wednesday night after another son requested a welfare check.

Officers located the man early Thursday near a Tumwater motel.

The Thurston County Sheriff’s Office says the man was inside a car and ignored officers’ commands to stop. Authorities say a sheriff’s office sergeant fired three shots at the vehicle as it started to drive toward him.

Authorities have not named the man.
