OMAHA, Neb. (AP) - An Omaha officer whose brother is the police chief has been injured in a fall.

An intrusion alarm prompted officers to respond around 11:55 p.m. Wednesday to the south Omaha post office. Police say Brian Schmaderer (SHMAH’-dur) was hurt after falling about 10 feet (3 meters) from a catwalk while checking the area.

Other officers found him unconscious, but police say he was alert when he was taken in serious condition to Nebraska Medical Center. No intruder was found.

Brother Todd Schmaderer is the city’s chief of police.
