LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - The University of Wyoming Board of Trustees has approved a 4 percent tuition increase, effective in the 2018-19 academic year.
The decision Thursday means that undergraduate Wyoming residents will see a $5 increase per credit hour, from $129 to $134, while the cost for undergraduate nonresidents will rise from $516 to $537 per credit.
For a resident student taking 30 credit hours, annual tuition would increase from the current $3,870 to about $4,020. An out-of-state student with the same credit hours would see tuition increase from $15,480 a year to about $16,110.
The trustees decided to increase nonresident tuition despite a recent consultant’s report recommending that the university decrease nonresident tuition to $9,500 a year in order to attract more out-of-state students.
But UW officials say the issue needs further study.
Trustees also approved higher mandatory student fees: $10 per semester for UW athletics and $6.06 per semester for consolidated student services.
However, student board, room and rent will remain unchanged.
