MONCKS CORNER, S.C. (AP) - A South Carolina man has been arrested and charged with murder in the death of his girlfriend, who disappeared in 2014.

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office told local media that 36-year-old Jerald Jermaine Howard of Huger was arrested Monday. Howard earlier pleaded no contest to obstruction of justice in the disappearance of 28-year-old Nicole Goodlett of Spartanburg.

Her remains were found in 2015 in woods behind Cainhoy Elementary School in Huger.

The couple had twin daughters.

Sheriff’s Office spokesman Mike Cochran said authorities were conducting surveillance on Howard when they pulled over the pickup truck he was driving Monday in Goose Creek.

Berkeley deputies say the murder charge comes following work with the Spartanburg County Sheriff’s Office.

It was not known whether Howard has an attorney yet.
