CHARLESTON, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia charter bus operator has been ordered to pay the state nearly $443,000 for consumer protection law violations.

Attorney General Patrick Morrisey announced the judgment Tuesday against Christopher Todd Cavender, owner of Cross Lanes-based Cav’s Coach Co. LLC and AllAboard Tours and Charters LLC. A Mingo County circuit judge entered the order earlier this month.

According to the order, Cavender must pay a civil penalty of $395,000, plus attorneys’ fees and costs. He will be prohibited from accepting money for providing charter bus transportation.

Cavender previously paid nearly $23,000 in court-ordered refunds for two canceled school field trips and a family vacation.
