Northern New England has been spared the worst of a massive coastal storm but there was still coastal flooding in southern Maine and New Hampshire.

Utilities reported several hundred power outages Saturday caused by high winds. Meteorologist Margaret Curtis from the National Weather Service said there was a sharp cutoff for damage, and that most of it was to the south.

The storm brought another round of flooding in coastal communities at high tide Saturday afternoon before flood warnings were lifted.

In Saco, Maine, one home was nearly knocked off its foundation by the pounding surf. Rocks were left on roads in Hampton Beach and Rye, New Hampshire.

On Friday, a front-end loader was used to rescue a mother and child trapped in a stalled van in Wells, Maine.
