BEL AIR, Md. (AP) - A Maryland state senator has died suddenly.

WTOP reported that Republican Sen. H. Wayne Norman Jr. passed away on Sunday. Details on his death were not immediately released.

Norman represented parts of Harford and Cecil counties. The 62-year-old Republican was elected to Maryland’s Senate in 2014. He previously served in the House of Delegates.

Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan said on Twitter that he’s ordered flags to be flown at half staff in Norman’s honor.

The Republican governor said in a statement that Norman’s work on the Judicial Proceedings and Ethics committees will not be soon forgotten. He added that, “nor will his steadfast advocacy on behalf of rural Marylanders and our veterans.”

Norman maintained a law firm in Bel Air. He is survived by his wife Linda and two children.
