MANDAN, N.D. (AP) - Mandan Public Schools superintendent says increased enrollment projections threaten to overwhelm classroom capacity in the next five years.

Enrollment is expected to increase by more than 500 students in that time frame. Superintendent Mike Bitz says it’s a big concern.

The Bismarck Tribune says the high school alone would be 150 students over capacity. School board president Tim Rector says officials need to make plans soon to address what he says are “very sobering” numbers.

Last year, the school board opted to build a 10-classroom addition onto Mandan Middle School. That expansion should be done by August and is expected to be enough space for the projected 1,000 middle school students in five years.
