STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - Authorities have released the name of a New Jersey man killed in Connecticut last week when a tree fell on his moving car during a violent storm.

Connecticut State Police say 25-year-old Jonathan Rodriguez-Melendez, of Hawthorne, New Jersey, was killed at about 3:30 p.m. Friday when a tree fell on his car as he drove south on Route 15 in Stamford.

Rodriguez-Melendez was declared dead at the scene. His only passenger, also a New Jersey resident, was transported to Greenwich Hospital with what police called “minor, non-life-threatening injuries.”

Police said that as the car approached an overpass, a tree dislodged and fell directly on top of the vehicle.

Police blamed the accident on rain and “severe” crosswinds that resulted from Friday’s nor’easter.
