BRIGHTON, Mich. (AP) - A portion of a southeastern Michigan highway was closed for several hours after a semitrailer fire spread to grass along the roadway as much of the state is under a wildfire warning.

Authorities closed the northbound lanes of U.S. 23 north of Interstate 96 near Brighton for about four hours before reopening the highway Tuesday afternoon.

The Brighton Area Fire Authority says a truck loaded with charcoal caught fire. The blaze destroyed much of the trailer that stopped on the highway shoulder and spread into the nearby tree line. No injuries were reported.

The National Weather Service issued a red flag warning Tuesday for Michigan’s entire Lower Peninsula, saying high winds, dry conditions and warm temperatures could cause wildfires to quickly spread.
