PORT ORCHARD, Wash. (AP) - A man who told police his gun malfunctioned twice when he tried to shoot a woman he suspected of stealing heroin and cash from him has been sentenced to 8 1/2 years in prison.

The Kitsap Sun reports that 27-year-old Davonne Creekmore told officers he and the woman had used heroin June 8 in a West Bremerton parking lot and then nodded off. He believed the woman had stolen his drugs and cash while he slept.

Court documents say the woman decided to drive Creekmore home but en route he stuck a pistol in her abdomen and pulled the trigger, but it didn’t fire. He “racked the slide” on the pistol and pulled the trigger a second time but it again malfunctioned.

The woman pulled into a lot and yelled for someone to call 911.
