BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) - Police say an off-duty officer foiled the robbery and kidnapping of an 83-year-old woman in Louisiana.
WAFB-TV reports the woman was leaving a Baton Rouge casino Wednesday when another woman kidnapped her at gunpoint. A statement by the Baton Rouge Police Department says 45-year-old Tamika Raymond then ordered the woman to drive to a bank.
After leaving the bank, the victim braked at a stoplight and refused to move again when the light turned green. Off-duty Slidell Police Officer Dennis Neyland was in a car beside them and asked if they were OK. The victim said no. Neyland got out of his car to help, and police say Raymond began fighting with him.
Raymond has been charged with armed robbery and battery of a police officer. Police say the gun Raymond had was a BB gun.
