PLYMOUTH, Mass. (AP) - A Massachusetts attorney has been charged with helping smuggle about $12,000 worth of drugs into jail.
Elana Gordon, of Bridgewater, was released on $1,000 bail after pleading not guilty Thursday to several drug charges.
Prosecutors say the 42-year-old Gordon used her privileges as a lawyer to enter the Plymouth County House of Correction last week where she met with an inmate who isn’t her client. Authorities say Gordon passed two envelopes to the inmate that contained 61 Suboxone strips that in jail were worth about $12,000.
Neither Gordon nor her attorney spoke outside court, but her attorney said in court Gordon did not know what she was doing was illegal.
The inmate’s sister, 20-year-old Minoska Bello, is also charged. She was released on personal recognizenace and refused comment outside court.
