ASHEVILLE, N.C. (AP) - Authorities say one man has been wounded by a police officer in North Carolina after he attacked the officer with a knife.

Asheville Police spokeswoman Christina Hallingse said the manager at the In Town Motor Lodge called 911 around 7:45 a.m. Friday saying a man was screaming and damaging property.

Hallingse says 37-year-old Jonathan Bedrosian refused to answer his door, so police Lt. Michael Lamb and other officers walked to a balcony to look at Bedrosian through the glass door.

Hallingse said in a statement Bedrosian then attacked Lamb with a knife and Lamb shot him.

Hallingse says Bedrosian was taken to the hospital with critical injuries, while Lamb was treated at the scene.

Authorities say Bedrosian was white. Hallingse’s statement didn’t give Lamb’s race.
