DIXON, N.M. (AP) - Authorities says a deputy shot and wounded a man who allegedly crashed his vehicle into a patrol unit and then turned it toward deputies were trying to take the man into custody after a pursuit in three counties in northern New Mexico.
Rio Arriba sheriff’s Maj. Randy Sanches says the shooting of 54-year-old Brian Dorais of Madrid occurred Thursday after a deputy responded to a report of a suspicious person sitting a vehicle parked on private property in Dixon, which is 36 miles (58 kilometers) north of Santa Fe.
Sanches says the vehicle’s driver struck the deputy’s unit as the deputy jumped out of the way and then drove through Dixon and into Taos County before turning back into Rio Arriba County and then into Santa Fe County, where the shooting occurred.
Sanches says Dorasis was arrested on suspicion of aggravated fleeing and aggravated assaulted assault on a police officer with a deadly weapon.
Court records don’t list a defense attorney who could comment on the allegations.
