CRANSTON, R.I. (AP) - An inmate incarcerated in a Rhode Island prison for the 1973 murder of a correctional officer is accused of stabbing another.

WPRI-TV reports 79-year-old John Carillo allegedly stabbed a correctional officer Friday morning in a maximum security building at the Adult Correctional Institutions.

Officials say the officer was stabbed in his chest and has been treated and released from Rhode island Hospital.



Carillo is serving a life sentence for the 1973 murder of officer Donald Price.

He will be arraigned in Kent County District Court Tuesday on felony assault charges and assault on a correctional officer.

An attorney for Carillo could not be immediately reached for comment.
