WINFIELD, W.Va. (AP) - A West Virginia woman has been sentenced to 15 years in prison in the death of a man who overdosed on heroin.
Media reports say 36-year-old Joney Shannon Farley of Hurricane was sentenced in Putnam County Circuit Court on Friday for drug delivery resulting in death.
Farley had told investigators she twice injected 57-year-old Jeffry Burdette of Culloden with a mixture of heroin and water at her home last year. When Burdette stopped breathing, Farley drove him to a hospital. He was on life support for several days before his death.
Farley, who is the daughter of former Putnam County Sheriff Stan Farley, originally was charged with first-degree murder. She entered a plea deal to a charge that was signed into law five days after her arrest.
