ERIE, Pa. (AP) - The Roman Catholic Diocese of Erie has added six names to a list of clergy and lay people facing credible allegations of sexual abuse or misconduct.
The diocese had released a list of 34 priests and 17 lay people in early April. On Friday, Erie Bishop Lawrence Persico released the names of a former lay teacher and five more priests including three who are deceased.
Persico said Wednesday after meeting with Pennsylvania Attorney General Josh Shapiro he won’t try to block the release of a report detailing the findings of a grand jury investigation into how church leaders in Erie and five other dioceses have handled allegations of abuse.
The investigation has already led to arrest of one priest accused of sexually abusing at least two boys and making one of them say confession after the alleged assaults.
