BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A meeting of the North Dakota Industrial Commission began with commissioners approving meeting minutes from the past eight months after falling behind with publishing the records.
The Bismarck Tribune reports that commissioners attributed the delay to a staffing shortage. The minutes were from 12 previous meetings dating back to August 2017.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem, one the three commission members, in 2014 found the commission to be in violation of the state’s open records laws for failing to provide copies of minutes in a timely manner.
Stenehjem said during Thursday’s meeting that the commission recently hired additional staff that will allow the agency to keep up with publishing meeting minutes.
David Thompson, a Democrat challenging Stenehjem for attorney general, called it “unseemly” for Stenehjem to blame staff for the backlog.
