KINSTON, N.C. (AP) - A North Carolina woman was killed when the car she was driving hit a freight train.

The North Carolina Highway Patrol tells local news outlets 83-year-old Glynn Seymour Smith of Kinston died at the scene when he car struck a CSX train at a crossing on N.C. Highway 11 between Kinston and Grifton.

Officials say the warning lights and safety arm were operating at the time of the accident Thursday. The patrol said the car Smith was driving hit the safety arm, then hit the train.



Investigators are trying to determine what led to the collision and are looking for eyewitnesses.
