BECKLEY, W.Va. (AP) - A former county parks official in West Virginia faces charges of embezzling $18,500 after law enforcement officers say she admitted to writing herself and another county worker unauthorized pay raises.

According to The Register-Herald , former Raleigh County Parks and Recreation Authority director Rhonda Michelle Walker was arrested Friday and posted her $25,000 bond.

Court documents say the alleged embezzlement began in 2010 and stretched over a five-year period.

The criminal complaint says Walker admitted that she wrote checks to pay for unused vacation time and to give herself a raise.

Raleigh Sheriff’s Detective R.A. Robinson said the Raleigh County Commission advised him of the financial discrepancies.

The complaint says Walker wrote 16 checks to herself and one to a maintenance worker she supervised. Robinson said he won’t be criminally charged.
