JACKSON, Miss. (AP) - The mayor of Mississippi’s largest city says he’s working to speed up agreements with the county government to pave some streets after a county supervisor complained about the slow process.
Jackson Mayor Chokwe Antar Lumumba says things are moving slowly right now because the city is trying to ensure paving projects include curb and sidewalk upgrades to make them more accessible to people with disabilities.
Hinds County Supervisor Robert Graham tells WJTV-TV the county has sent multiple documents to the city, but Lumumba has signed none of them. Graham says there are about 50 city streets the county could pave.
Lumumba says the city is working on a template to make future agreements more efficient. He says he’s been meeting with supervisors on the issue.
