GURNEE, Ill. (AP) - Authorities say a woman shot to death by suburban Chicago police on an expressway was a passenger in a car that rammed into a police vehicle earlier in the day.

The Lake County Major Crime Task Force says the woman was waving a long-barrel firearm as she stood Wednesday afternoon in the southbound lanes of U.S. Route 41 in Gurnee.

The task force said Thursday investigators believe the woman was a passenger in the car that struck a police vehicle in nearby Antioch. Police surrounded a house for about six hours where they believed those from the car were hiding.

Investigators believe a man who was unconscious in a car during the Gurnee incident was the driver in the Antioch crash. Authorities didn’t immediately identity the woman who was killed.
