PINEVILLE, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia officials are investigating the destruction of a monument honoring a victim of the Upper Big Branch mine explosion.

The Register-Herald reports a black granite bench in Palisades Park was destroyed. The bench honored Adam Morgan. The 21-year-old Pineville man was one of 29 miners who died in the 2010 explosion.

Each of the 29 victims has a memorial at the park. None of the other memorials were damaged. Pineville Mayor Linda Phillips said the city is offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of whomever is responsible. Phillip said police are reviewing surveillance video.
