SPOKANE, Wash. (AP) - Spokane police arrested a man who was waving a knife outside a bar, after he tried to provoke officers into shooting him.

When officers arrived at the Spokane bar at about 7:30 p.m. Friday, the man was uncooperative and wouldn’t surrender.

After a few minutes of talking, officers took the man into custody. No one was injured during the incident.

Officials later learned that the detained man was the one who called 911. He told officers that his intent was to wait for a police response and cause an officer-involved shooting.

The man was booked of a weapons charge and was referred to mental health resources for an evaluation.
