STAMFORD, Conn. (AP) - A Connecticut man who nearly blinded a 2-year-old girl in a violent assault has been sentenced to four years in prison.
The Advocate reports that 33-year-old Pedro Salinas, of Norwalk, was sentenced Friday in Stamford to four years in prison and 20 years’ probation. Salinas pleaded guilty last year to multiple offenses including first-degree assault.
The child’s mother moved her family from San Diego after meeting Salinas on the internet.
Court records show the child was hospitalized with bleeding in the brain, multiple bruises and retinal hemorrhaging. Salinas’ arrest affidavit says the injuries were consistent with shaken baby syndrome and additional assaults to her head.
Salinas said during sentencing that the child’s mother said in a letter she never saw him do anything to the children.
