FRAMINGHAM, Mass. (AP) - Police in Massachusetts had to decontaminate a station cell after a prisoner apparently smuggled the powerful opioid fentanyl inside.

The MetroWest Daily News reports that Framingham police discovered the drug in a cell Monday following an arrest. Police tested the substance and determined it was fentanyl.

Lt. Patricia Grigas says prisoners in the cellblock were evacuated and the area was decontaminated. The station can hold 21 prisoners.

Police haven’t released the identity of the prisoner involved but said charges are pending.

Grigas says it’s unclear how the drugs passed through police security. It remains under investigation.
