BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) - A 20-year-old Billings man suffered life-threatening head injuries when he was struck by a vehicle as he walked on a sidewalk.

A 21-year-old woman suspected of hitting him early Tuesday left the scene but was later arrested. Charges are pending.

Billings Police Sgt. Pat Curry says the victim and a 20-year-old woman were walking on the sidewalk at about 1:30 a.m. Tuesday when he was struck by a Ford Mustang. The woman was not injured. The driver left the scene but was later stopped by Montana State University Billings police.

Curry says the victim was hospitalized in critical condition Tuesday morning. The names of the victim and the suspect have not been released.

Police say alcohol and speed were suspected factors in the collision.
