NEW ORLEANS (AP) - Authorities say a woman has died from alcohol and drug withdrawal while in custody at a New Orleans jail.
The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Officer told NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune that the 36-year-old woman was found unresponsive in her jail cell Sunday evening at the Orleans Justice Center. The woman was taken into custody May 25.
The woman says she used heroin and alcohol for several years. She was placed on a detoxification program for opioid and alcohol withdrawal, but refused her medication dose on Sunday evening.
The name of the woman has not been released.
