PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Police say they arrested a Rhode Island man for driving under the influence while going more than 100 mph with a toddler in the backseat.

State police say they pulled over the 34-year-old man around 12 a.m. Saturday after receiving multiple reports for a possible drunken driver on Interstate 95 in Richmond.

Police say the man had a 3-year-old in the car, and the child has since been turned over to the custody of his mother.

The man is facing several charges, including DUI while a child under 13 was present and no child restraint.

State police say they arrested 50 people over the Memorial Day weekend, including nine for operating under the influence. Of the 52 car crashes reported, none resulted in deaths or serious injuries.
