MIDDLESEX, Vt. (AP) - More historic Vermont newspapers are now available online for free through a system set up by the state archives.

Secretary of State Jim Condos says that newspapers are instrumental to ensuring Vermonters are informed about historic government actions.

The Vermont state Archives and Records Administration is part of the Secretary of State’s office.

The state archives is working on the project with a subsidiary of Ancestry.com

Since January, millions of pages of Vermont newspapers from the 1700s through 1922 have been digitized and are available through a state website.
